Flipping the House with Eric Holguin

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

Texas Family Project is proud to announce our endorsement and selection of Eric Holguin, who is running for Representative of HD 32, as the next winner of our

Find the Nine Campaign. We believe that Flipping the Texas House WILL impact Texan’s lives for the next 10 years. It is one of the most important things we can accomplish in 2020! Nueces County will stand by Eric Holguin and his election will help flip the house.

Eric Holguin grew up in a South Texas working-class Hispanic family of public servants and a graduate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. His father a public-school educator, his mother a nurse, and two veteran brothers who now serve as Texas State Troopers. He got his start working for a US Congresswoman as well as in NYC government before relocating back to Corpus Christi, TX to fight for his home region as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Congress in 2018.

Although gerrymandering affected his chances at being successful, Eric continued to fight for veterans (got a bill signed into law in the Texas & federal level) with a local veterans organization, and fight for civil & LGBTQ rights as President of a LULAC chapter, LULAC PARATODOS.

During his time with the NYC Comptroller, Eric utilized that office to fight Texas’ hateful 2017 transgender bathroom bill by way of economic consequences to Texas. Eric is part of a new generation that is fighting for change that is representative of the people and for the people. He advocates and fights for disenfranchised communities on issues such as education, environment, living wages, civil rights, housing, homelessness, immigration, and more.

Eric believes that the three biggest issues that need to be addressed in the community are the COVID-19 response, Environmental protection, and Education. Here is what he says about each.

1. COVID-19 .The tackling of COVID-19 in our community and across the State has been a disaster. Eric wrote out many proposals and ideas to tackle this pandemic -- https://www.ericholguin.com/covid19response.

2. Environmental Protection -- Our community is falling victim to over-industrialization with oil/gas terminals being built in our beach communities to flaring to water desal plants that are for industry use only, we need to put a hamper down on the TCEQ to ensure they aren't rubber stamping these projects without doing their due diligence on the applications. 3. Education -- We have plenty of work to do to ensure we can maintain funding for our public schools in the future. We cannot let this be a one-and-done bill. We need to ensure our teachers are getting their hard-earned raises, our classroom sizes do not go up, and that we are investing in personal development for our students ranging from anti-bullying programs to quality after-school programs. We should be emphasizing vocational training in manufacturing, engineering, technology, coding, and more so that way our students can be prepared for the real world right out of college.
